Rail Passes
The least expensive and most trouble-free way to travel Europe by rail
is with a pass purchased before you leave Azerbaijan. There is a pass
to suit every traveller’s needs. A Eurailpass gives unlimited first-class
rail travel in 17 countries for periods from 15 days to three months,
with travel permitted on any or all days of the time period. For those
under 26, a Eurailpass Youth offers the same deal in second class.
A Eurailpass Flexi is for those who needs a break time between train rides.
It offers first-class travel for 10 or 15 days within any two-month period.
A Youth Flexipass is available for second-class travel. With both Eurailpass
and Flexi (but not Youthpass) there are discounts for two or more persons
travelling together, and half fares for children.
Eurail Selectpass offers flexible travel of five to 15 days within a two-month
period on the national rail networks of any three, four or five adjoining
Eurail countries which are connected by train or ship.
There are passes for single countries and groups of countries as well
– Britrail Pass, Swiss Pass and German Railpass, France Railpass, Scanrail
for Scandinavia, European East Pass for Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary,
Poland and Slovakia. Wherever you want to go, there’s almost sure to be
a rail pass tailor-made for you.
A European rail pass further gives you a range of bonuses. Depending on
the type of pass, these may include special Passholder fares on Eurostar,
free or reduced-price rides on certain shipping lines and major ferry
routes. A Swiss Pass includes travel on lake steamers, postal buses and
some wonderful privately owned mountain and cable railways.
